Growing vegetable seedlings in the college campus
Report on: Growing vegetable seedlings in the college campus
Venue: College Greenhouse
Participants: NSS (National Service Scheme) and Bhoomithrasena Club Members
Date: 26.09.2023 In a remarkable collaborative effort, the NSS (National Service Scheme) and Bhoomithrasena Club of Bishop Moore College joined forces to carry forward the college's commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental consciousness. The focus of this event was to plant vegetable seedlings in high-density polymer growbags, a sustainable and innovative approach to urban farming. HDPE bags are eco-friendly as well as cost effective as they can be recycled for further usage. The event began with an introductory session, with the principal of the college Dr. Ranjith Mathew Abraham shared with the participants the importance of sustainable agriculture and encouraged everyone to engage in similar practices at their homes using reusable sacks and containers. The selected vegetable seedlings, previously nurtured in the Botany Department Greenhouse, were carefully transplanted into the HDPE growbags. The growbags and some seedlings were also purchased from a nearby State Seed Farm, Kallumala, thereby extending an arm in our limited way to support a State-run initiative. Each seedling was placed in its designated growbag, ensuring optimal spacing and growing conditions. It exemplified the college's commitment to nurturing socially responsible individuals who understand the importance of sustainable agriculture and are actively engaged in practical initiatives to protect the environment.
