The Department of English is one of the first departments that was functional since the inception of the College in 1964. It started its undergraduate programme in 1967 and was raised to a Postgraduate Department in 1998. University ranks testify to the academic standards maintained by the Dept. Beyond the academic realm, the Department conducts regular annual activities such as the English literary fest “Laurel Literaria”, and Prof. PUJ Memorial Lectures.

The Department has conducted international and national level seminars, author interfaces with national and international reputed academicians and has several UGC projects to its credit. The International Conference conducted by the Dept of English had its outcome in a special edition of the UGC journal, Littcrit in December 2020. The twelve members of the faculty has in it two research guides and five Ph D holders.The faculty serve as resource persons and Members of the Board of Studies of various universities.
