Innovation Ecosystem and Institute Innovation Council

One of the primary focus of our institute has been to create a culture for Innovation andEntrepreneurship on our campus and in the community. The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Ministry of Education (MoE) through MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC), The Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre initiated by IIC, The Moore Initiative for Skill Training (MIST) and the Entrepreneurship Development Club play a very crucial role towards that goal. IIC in the college function engaging faculty, students and staff in various innovation and entrepreneurship related activities such as ideation, Problem solving, Proof of Concept development, Design Thinking, IPR, project handling and management at Pre-incubation/Incubation stage, etc., so that innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem gets established in the college. The IIC model is designed to address the existing challenges/issues in the college such as less numbers, occasional and unplanned Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities organised in the college with low involvement of top leadership, lack of coherence and absence of synergy in resource mobilization, deployment and underutilization of creative potential of youths as major barrier for vibrant I&E ecosystem to emerge from the college

Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre (MIPC)

Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre (MIPC) was established in 2022 by the Institution Innovation Council of Bishop Moore College for developing an innovation ecosystem within our campus and in the community. The Centre serves as a nurturing ground for young innovators and entrepreneurs, supporting and guiding them in their entrepreneurial journey by connecting them with angel investors, venture capitalist, incubators, and mentors so that they grow into successful start-ups.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To build and develop an innovation ecosystem
  • To provide a platform for nurturing and developing creative and innovative ideas
  • To establish networks between innovators, entrepreneurs, angel investors, incubators, etc.
  • To provide support in the development of prototypes, business plan etc. To recommend feasible ideas to State level competitions (such as Young Innovators Programme) and National level competitions (Smart India Hackathon Together, etc.)



Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) 


The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Bishop Moore College was formulated on 10th September 2021 as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell. IIC, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Club, organizes various activities to develop the innovation ecosystem within our campus and the community by creating a platform for nurturing creative and innovative ideas. The following 9 faculty members received Innovation Ambassador training in 2022 from the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education to perform the role of mentor and resource person in organizing various programs related to innovation and startup.

·       IIC encourages students, faculty members and alumni to submit their innovative ideas to YUKTI - National Innovation Repository, an initiative of Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell. Three innovative ideas were submitted in the YUKTI portal in the academic year 2021-22.

 

·       24 teams consisting of a total of 148 students registered and submitted their innovative ideas in the Young Innovators Programme (YIP 2021), a programme under Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC). Six student teams from Bishop Moore College were shortlisted in various categories.

 

·      Two student teams participated in the Smart India Hackathon 2022, which is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving.

 

·     The team of Hajera A. and Sruthi S., second year B. Com students from Bishop Moore College, was selected as one of the top 100 applications from India for the programme Together 2022, which is a global initiative between Startup India, DPIIT and Schulich School of Business, Canada. Their proposal was on recycling old used clothes and waste damaged textiles to make the fashion and textile industry more sustainable.

 

·       Hajera A., second year B. Com. student, signed an MoU with Kerala University Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (KUBIIC), for her student start up “Garbs New” which is about recycling old and used clothes

·   IIC organized the Impact Lecture Series 2022-23 sponsored by the MoE’s Innovation Cell and AICTE. Mr. Gautham Palaniswamy, Manager, Sathyabama TBI; Mr. Shihab Makaniyil, Founder and CEO, ShopDoc; Neenu Rathin, Founder and CEO, The Social Town and Aditi Bhutia Madan, Founder Director, BluePine Foods Pvt. Ltd. were the resource persons

 

·       IIC served as a mentor in the creation of the Institution’s Innovation Council at St Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram.

 

·    IIC has been instrumental in the initiation of Moore Innovation and Pre-Incubation Centre which serves as a platform for nurturing ground for young innovators and entrepreneurs, supporting and guiding them in their entrepreneurial journey by connecting them with angel investors, venture capitalist, incubators, and mentors so that they grow into successful start-ups.

 

·     The IPR Cell was also initiated by IIC for creating awareness among students, research scholars and faculty members about Intellectual Property Rights. The IPR Cell regularly conducts various activities such as seminars, workshops, guidance in patent filing, etc.

 

·    IIC in association with Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services (TIPS) at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, TIMed organised and online workshop on “Translating Your Research Outcome” on 20th November 2021.

 

·       IIC organised a Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patent Process on 25th November 2021 via the online Google Meet platform.

 

·       On 11th February 2022 IIC Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, in association with DPIIT Chair on IPR, IUCIPRS, CUSAT CIPAM, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry hosted IPR Awareness and Training Programme. Mr. N. Subramaniyan, Assistant Manager, CIPAM, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, served as the resource person.

 

·    Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2022. Dr. Reshmy R., Associate Professor, Providence College of Engineering, Chengannur, Kerala was the resource person and she delivered a talk via the online You tube platform.

 

·   Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, participated in the IIC Regional Meet held in Kochi on 6th August 2022 at KMEA Engineering College organised by MoE’s Innovation Cell Dr. Tressia Alias Princy Paulose, IIC Convenor of Bishop Moore College, participated in the Meet and also presented a poster representing Bishop Moore College.
