National Space Day 2026
The Department of Physics, Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, organized a National Space Day Celebration on 18 August 2026 at the E-Learning Room, Department of Physics, commemorating India’s remarkable achievements in space science and technology. The programme was organized around the theme: “Towards Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Aspiring to Global Space Leadership”
The programme was honoured by the presence of Mr. Kiran K. P., Scientist/Engineer-SG and Project Manager, Gaganyaan Project, VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram and Alumnus of the college, as the Chief Guest. His association with the prestigious Gaganyaan programme added special significance to the celebration and provided students with an opportunity to gain insights into India’s human spaceflight programme and the challenges and opportunities in space exploration. An inspiring message was delivered by Principal, Prof. Ranjith Mathew Abraham.
A major highlight of the programme was the InterDepartment Quiz Competition. From among the 27 teams participated Mr. Muhammad Hisham Noushad and Nidhin Mohan (Department of English) won the First Prize. Mr. Abhishek M. and Mr. Karthik Pillai (Department of Physics) and Mr. Sibin Simon and Mr.
Alen Suresh (Department of Physics) won the second and third prizes respectively.
This was followed by student presentations on the topic:
“India’s Ascent into Space: From First Steps to Future Frontiers”.
The celebration successfully highlighted India’s space legacy, scientific achievements and future ambitions, while inspiring students to develop curiosity, innovation and a greater interest in science and technology.
