Report on National Space Day Celebrations
Department of Physics, Bishop Moore College
As part of the National Space Day celebrations, the Department of Physics, Bishop Moore College, organized a series of programmes on 25th August 2025. The events included an inter-department quiz competition and a video presentation, both centered on the theme of Space and Astronomy.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr. Ranjith Mathew Abraham, who in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of space research in the modern world. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Dr. Lynnette Joseph, Head of the Department of Physics.
The Quiz Competition, conducted by Quiz Master Aebel M. Finoy, witnessed enthusiastic participation with 20 teams representing various departments of the college. The event received a very good response from different departments, reflecting the keen interest of students in space science. The winners were:
First Prize: Mohammad Hisham Noushad & Sidhi Suresh – S3 English
Second Prize: Jyothylekshmi J & Varsha Vinod – M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry
Third Prize: Nidhin Mohan & Sheeba Elizabeth George – S3 English
Following the quiz, a Video Presentation on Indian Space Milestones was presented by the postgraduate first-year students, which highlighted key aspects of India’s journey and achievements in space exploration.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the coordinator, Dr. Tintu K. Kuruvilla, who expressed gratitude to all participants and faculty members for their support.
These events provided the students with a platform to enhance their knowledge of space science, improve their teamwork and presentation skills, and develop a deeper appreciation for India’s progress in space research and exploration. The celebration not only enriched their scientific outlook but also inspired them to pursue greater interest in astronomy and related fields.
