Report on the Mathematics Association Inauguration – πthagoreans 2026–27

The Department of Mathematics, Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, inaugurated its Mathematics Association πthagoreans 2026–27 on 18 August 2026 at the Seminar Hall. The programme began with a prayer, followed by the welcome address by Dr. Simili Abraham, HOD, and the presidential address by Dr. Ranjith Mathew Abraham, Principal.

In his address, the Principal highlighted the presence and relevance of mathematics in various fields of life, including art, dance, science and economics. The association was formally inaugurated by Mr. Manesh Jacob, Assistant Professor, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla, whose address explored these connections from a more mathematical perspective.

The highlight of the programme was the invited talk Math of Change by Mr. Manesh Jacob. The session focused on change and interdependence in the world around us, explaining how quantities such as position, temperature and pressure depend on time and how mathematics helps us understand these relationships.

The programme also included felicitations by Dr. Lynnette Joseph, IQAC Coordinator, presentation of the association’s action plan by Ms. Diya Deepak, Association Secretary, and cultural performances by the students. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Diya Deepak.

The programme provided an engaging introduction to the association’s activities and emphasized the importance of mathematics in understanding the interconnected and changing world around us.
