Chemistry Association Inauguration Report
The Chemistry Association of Bishop Moore College (CHEMA-2024) was inaugurated on 23rd August 2024 at 10.00 AM in the seminar hall. The event began with a prayer song followed by a warm welcome address by the chemistry association president Jasna A from S3 MSc. Dr. Ranjith Mathew Abraham, Principal, delivered the Presidential address. The event was formally inaugurated by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp proceeded by an inspiring inaugural address by the distinguished guest Dr. Aravind K, Assistant Professor in chemistry, St Berchmans College, Changanassery. It was followed by a heartfelt remembrance speech by Ms. Linda E Jacob in honor of Prof. Suja May Kurien, former professor of the department of Chemistry, Bishop Moore College who departed from us on 21 July 2024.
Marking the college’s diamond jubilee celebration, the chemistry department proudly presented “Waste to Wealth” an innovative project that transforms water hyacinth, an invasive aquatic weed, into valuable products showcasing the department’s commitment to address environmental challenges. After that, mementos were given to students who excelled in academic and extracurricular activities, in recognition of their hard work and achievements. This was preceded by a remarkable recital of periodic table elements by Sivani V S, first year BSc Chemistry and India Book of Records holder for being the fastest teen to recite all the elements in 17 seconds. Felicitations were given by Dr. Anne Angeline Abraham, Vice Principal, Dr. Lynette Joseph, IQAC coordinator and Dr. Siji K Mary, Head of the Department of Chemistry. Vote of thanks was delivered by association secretary Abhimanyu T Anith of final year BSc chemistry. After the tea break the program resumed by the insightful keynote address by Dr. Aravind K on ‘Wonders of Life: A chemist’s perspective’. The event concluded by cultural performance of students. The CHEMA-2024 inauguration marked a successful beginning for the association activities
